Yowu Hatsune Miku Cat Ear Headphones Review

I have a confession to make: I am a massive Vocaloid fan. From spending a decent amount of money on character voicebanks to eagerly waiting in line to see Hatsune Miku in concert, I’ve been an avid participant in the brand’s expansion. That’s why I immediately pounced on the opportunity to buy Yowu’s Limited Edition Hatsune Miku Cat Ear Headphones.

The relatively young audio product company Yowu has benefitted from brand synergy with several well-known properties such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Fox Spirit Matchmaker. Miku’s brand has become a global juggernaut responsible for spawning multitudes of merchandise, so it was a natural fit to add her unique branding to Yowu’s growing line of headphones.

Needless to say, the product’s biggest draw is its unique appearance. Unlike Yowu’s usual cat ear headphone design, this product is outfitted in Miku’s signature turquoise color scheme with eye-catching details such as her name and “01” tattoo symbol on the headphones’ exterior. The headphones’ ears have also been changed from the standard organic-looking shape to a more technological android-inspired design. The headphones’ hinges are also sleeker and more streamlined than Yowu’s other headphone products.

In addition to these new design features, the headphones included the 4 light effects from Yowu’s other headphone models. You can use the Yowu app to choose “Solid,” “Rhythm,” “Breathing,” and “Flash” effects for added visual flair whenever you use your headphones. It’s another great example of Yowu’s attention to detail when creating these aesthetically pleasing headphones for their core audience. The battery does die faster if you use the lighting effects, so it’s probably a good idea not to use them all the time.

I appreciated the way Yowu redesigned these headphones instead of opting for a simple turquoise recolor of their usual product. Instead of a simple cash grab using Hatsune Miku’s name, this is a truly unique product that the character’s fans will appreciate.

The headphones’ design alone makes it worth the price of purchase for fans, but how well do the headphones work? I can say that the sound quality is excellent. The headphones sound clear and feel comfortable to wear. They also have long battery life and can work for hours. The headphones also come with 4 separate EQ or sound modes that can be switched through the Yowu app so you can adjust the sound according to your tastes. As someone who hates tangled wires, the headphones’ Bluetooth support was another feature I enjoyed. 

If you’re in the mood for something different from the usual slew of wireless headphones, AirPods, and earbuds, I greatly recommend Yowu’s products. They look fantastic and work like a charm. Unfortunately, the Hatsune Miku headphones were a limited edition collector’s item, so they are no longer in production. If you want a pair, it’s easy to find one on eBay, but you’ll have to spend a large sum of money on this rare product.
